Chief Warrant Officers 2 (CWO-2) wear embroidered insignia of grade on the shoulder straps (epaulets) of the Evening Dress jacket of the men’s and women’s Evening Dress uniform. Regulations authorize the insignia to be either be embroidered directly onto the shoulder straps or onto a cloth that is then sewn onto the shoulder strap. We offer the latter version because it doesn’t entail stitching over the actual insignia. The synthetic gold bullion used in the embroidery is authorized for wear with uniform components made from gold bullion.
To attach the embroidered CWO-2 rank insignia properly to the shoulder straps, orient the cloth so the long axis of the insignia bar is facing front and rear from the wearer’s perspective (parallel to the shoulder seam). Then, position it on the strap so that the insignia’s outermost edge is 3/4-inch from the armhole seam, with the ends of the long axis equidistant from the front and rear edges of the shoulder strap.
