Unless a commander has prescribed otherwise, Chief Warrant Officers 3 (CWO-3) wear Garrison Caps with the Service uniform, with a subdued branch-of-service insignia on the wearer’s left side and a shiny, colored insignia of grade on the wearer’s right. Insignia placement for CWO insignia follows the rules for Company-grade Officers, with the bar oriented so that the long axis is basically vertical.
To position the insignia on the cap, place it at the midpoint of the arc formed by the flap curving down from the cap’s front point to the bottom; the flap should diagonally bisect the insignia if properly placed.
Worn by both male and female Marines, the Garrison Cap is the default headgear worn with the Service uniform and its variants. It is worn squarely centered or slightly tilted rightward with the base of the sweatband falling about an inch above the eyebrows.
This same size CWO-3 rank insignia is also worn on the front of the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System parka, centered in the space provided on the zipper flap.
