Black suspenders are authorized for optional wear by males in the United States Army with the Dress, Mess, and Evening Mess uniforms. Army regulations are silent on the subject of the color of suspenders, but traditionally Officers and Soldiers have worn suspenders made in their branch color; according to The Institute of Heraldry, Black has been the color associated with the Chaplain Corps since at least 1835. Because suspenders must not be visible when worn, black suspenders are not worn with the White Mess or White Evening Mess uniforms.
Black suspenders may also be worn by Air Force personnel. In fact, the Air Force is the only one of the five branches of the Armed Forces of the United States that requires the wear of suspenders, specifically with the Blue Mess Dress uniform. Black, dark blue, or solid white are the only colors of suspenders permitted. Like the Army, the Air Force limits the wear of suspenders to male personnel and does not permit suspenders to be visible when worn.
For your convenience, we offer both clip-on and button-end suspenders. Clip-on suspenders offer the advantage of being “compatible” with any type of trouser because they simply attach to the top of the waistband; button-end suspenders provide a more stylish look but require suspender buttons in the waistband interior.
