Formed in 2005 as the United States Army Reserve’s first functional command, the Military Intelligence Command has deployed over 6,000 Soldiers to provide operational intelligence not only to Army Service Component Commands, but also to nearly every national intelligence agency and combatant command. By carrying out signal intelligence, counterintelligence, strategic intelligence, technological intelligence, human intelligence, and collection operations, the Soldiers in the MIRC have lived up to its “Always Engaged” motto and have helped ensure the success of expeditionary missions, contingency operations, and various types of international engagement.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Military Intelligence Readiness Command features a torch bookended by faces peering forward and backward, superimposed on a blue globe and wreathed in laurel in its upper hemisphere. Torches in heraldry are often symbolic of knowledge shedding light over darkness, and the forward- and backward-facing reflect total situational awareness. The globe represents the breadth of the MIRC mission.
