Brassards serve as identification (ID) to designate personnel who are assigned to carry out a special task or who must interact with the public. Brassards are not meant for wear while performing daily or usual job-related activities, nor are they worn while conducting staff activities or routine maintenance. Instead, they are authorized for wear only while engaged in the duty associated with or specified on the brassard and the ready identification of the personnel wearing them is required, such as when engaged in field operations or an event response.
Brassards are an embroidered, rectangularly shaped device with overall dimensions of 1-3/16 inches height and 3-1/4 inches width, with a 1/8-inch border around all sides. For the Military Police Brassard, the two black letters are 1-5/16 inches in height.
The Military Police Brassard was approved on 9 May 2007.
