Featuring the Navy’s Hospital Corpsman (HM) specialty mark of a caduceus on a black shield measuring 1-inch wide and 1.5-inches high, this collar insignia is worn on the left collar point of the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform and other USMC utility and working uniforms. The insignia of grade, worn on the right collar point, is also rendered in black.
The HM branch-of-service device is placed vertically with the wings on the caduceus up and center of the insignia, with an imaginary line bisecting the collar point and running along the vertical axis of the insignia. The lower edges of the insignia should be a half-inch from the either side of the collar.
Navy personnel wearing this insignia will also be wearing a Fleet Marine Force breast insignia, signifying they have passed the Marine’s grueling requirements for serving with one of its units. The FMF breast insignia was preceded by a ribbon, but was eliminated when the Navy began mandating warfare qualifications for a variety of command; the Enlisted FMF Warfare Qualifications were crafted in 2004.
