U.S. NAVY AIRCREW SURVIVAL EQUIPMENTMAN (PR) BUCKLE

At first blush, the post-Navy job market for Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen (PR) might seem narrow, but that is far from the case. Because modern aviation involves so many different technologies, the skills PRs learn during their service make them competent in a variety of private- and public-sector jobs.

Training to ensure a safe environment for aircrews gives PRs a solid background for employment as Explosives Workers, Ordnance Handling Experts, and Blasters (Standard Occupational Classifications *47-5031) and Hazardous Materials Removal Workers (47-4041). Their training with the production, repair, and maintenance of survival equipment materials gives them the skills to work as Fabric Menders (47-9093) and Hand Sewers or Sewing Machine Operators (6051 and 6031). And depending on the career path that was chosen, a PR might pursue a career involving production and supervision, such as Purchasing Manager (47-3061), General and Operations Manager (47-1021), or First-Line Supervision of Production and Operating Workers (47-1011).

Among the Federal jobs an Aircrew Survival Equipmentman might pursue after leaving service are Safety Technician, Equipment Operator, Fabric Working, Sewing Machine Operator, and Protective and Safety Equipment Fabricating and Repairing.
