Use the drop-down selectors to the right to choose the E-8 Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO) Cap device you need.
Dress uniforms obviously call for shiny or nonsubdued insignia. The large version of this SCPO rank insignia is placed on the front of the Combination Cap in the rounded area formed by the mounting band on both the male and female versions of the headgear. (Note: the female Combination Cap has a published wear out date of 31 October 2018). Mount the insignia so that the unfouled arm of the anchor’s stock is to the wearer’s right.
Choose the small version for placement on a Garrison Cap. The insignia should be positioned vertically (eagle’s head upward) with the center of the device two inches from the crease in front of the cap and an inch-and-a-half from the bottom of the cap.
Navy regulations also call for the wear of rank insignia with the Eight Point Cap worn with the NWU Type I and III uniforms by personnel in the rate of E-4 or higher, but the information is incomplete and does not specify the size of the shiny insignia worn with the NWU Type I, nor does it make it clear whether shiny or black insignia should be worn with the Type III (or even if it is a Commander’s prerogative).
Black insignia has long been worn by Navy personnel such as Hospital Corpsmen or Religious Program Specialists serving with Marine Corps units. For CPOs, the black cap rank device is placed in the front of the Eight Point Cap worn with the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, centered between the top of the hat and where the brim meets the visor.
