Both male and female Chief Petty Officers (E-7) wear rank insignia on the Dinner Dress White, Full Dress White, and Service Dress White uniforms, in contrast with Officers who wear Shoulder Boards on the same uniforms. On uniforms with standing collars, or “chokers,” the insignia is positioned so the shank of the fouled anchor is parallel to the collar’s vertical edge and the center of the insignia on the midline of the collar. It should be placed one inch from the vertical edge of the collar.
The Service Dress White coat for females also comes in a version with notched lapels. For these coats, orient the insignia for the anchor shank is in an upright vertical position, centered between the outer edge of the collar and the seam (at the neck). The insignia should be placed so that is center is approximately inch from the bottom edge of the collar, i.e., above the notch signifying the end of the collar and the start of the lapel.
Women wear collar insignia on the ends of the collar of the Service Dress White coat with lapels. The anchor shank will be in the vertical (upright) position, with the center of the insignia approximately 1 inch from the bottom edge of the collar and midway between the edges (seam and outer edge) of the collar. On the Service Dress White Coat with stand-up collar (choker), wear collar insignia on the standing collar. The anchor shank of each collar device will be parallel to the vertical edge of the collar, with the center of the insignia on the midline of the standing collar, 1 inch from the vertical edge of the collar.
