With the Service Uniform’s replacement of the Winter Blue and Summer White uniforms in 2008, the Navy added collar grade insignia for personnel in the rates of E2 – E6, despite the fact that collar insignia were not worn on the two predecessor uniforms. Navy regulations refer to this insignia as “miniature” and specifies that it is anodized (highly polished).
The insignia for Petty Officer First Class consists of an eagle with outstretched winds on a perch directly above three chevrons. To position it properly on both collar points of the Service Uniform’s khaki shirt or overblouse, place it near the tip of the collar, centered one-inch distant from both the front and lower (back) edges of the collar. With the eagle facing inward (to the front), rotate the insignia inward until its vertical axis is on an imaginary line that bisects the collar point.
No rating specialty marks are worn with the Petty Officer First Class collar grade insignia.
