Gold cuff links are authorized for wear by the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, United States Maritime Service, and the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) by both male and female personnel. In the Navy, gold cuff links are authorized for Officers and CPOs except when the occasion calls for wear of the Formal Dress uniform, in which case mother-of-pearl are mandated. (The U.S. Maritime Service follows Navy uniform guidelines.) Similarly, Army regulations call for gold cuff links to be with Blue or White Mess Dress and Blue Dress uniforms, requiring plain white cuff links (such as mother-of-pearl) with or without rims of white gold or platinum for the Blue Evening Mess uniform. Coast Guard uniform rules state that plain gold cuff links may be worn with any authorized shirts that have cuff link holes (pleated white and formal white).
For its female personnel, the Commissioned Corps of the USPHS makes cuff links required uniform components for Dinner Dress uniforms (which include the White or Blue Dinner Dress Jacket), while their wear is optional with the Dinner Dress Blue or White uniforms (with the Service Dress Blue or White Coat). The regulations are the same for male personnel except cuff links are prescribed as optional items with the Full Dress Blue and Service Dress Blue uniforms.
