U.S. Navy uniform regulations call for Lieutenant Commander Flight Suit rank insignia to be sew-on embroidered or cloth, in contrast to the metal pin-on insignia specified for outerwear garments like the All-Weather Coat or Blue Jacket. The insignia is centered between the front and rear of the shoulder area and placed so that its outer edge is about 5/8 of an inch from the shoulder seam, with the gold oak leaf’s stem pointing away from the collar.
All other Flight Suit logos are attached using hook-and-pile fasteners, commonly referred to as Velcro. These include a command logo worn on the right breast, centered between the slash pocket and shoulder seam; a U.S. flag patch attached to the left shoulder arch about an inch below the seam; and a weapons school patch that is also placed an inch below the shoulder seam but on the right shoulder arch.
For Officers and CPOs may optionally wear both the Service Khaki Garrison Cap and command/Navy ball cap with the Flight Suit, while Enlisted (E-1 to E-6) are authorized to wear the Black Service Garrison Cap with the command/Navy ball cap designated as their optional headgear.
