Lieutenant (Junior Grade) rank insignia for Flight Suits is either embroidered or cloth sew-on attached to both shoulders. Insignia is to be placed so its outer edge is approximately 5/8-inch from the shoulder seam, centered between the front and rear of the shoulder and oriented so that the long axis of the silver bar forms a fore and aft line.
Other patches worn on the Flight Suit are the U.S. flag patch and, if authorized, a weapons school patch. These are centered on the shoulder arch roughly an inch below the seam, with the flag patch worn on the left shoulder and the weapons school patch worn on the right.
Flight Suits may be worn only by aircrew members and those engaged in flight or flight-related duties for that day. They may be worn while commuting, which includes stops typically associated with commuting such as at banks, restaurants, day cares, gas stations, and so forth. Personnel authorized to wear Flight Suits who are in the National Capital Region may wear them at all locations except inside the Pentagon, the National Mall area (bounded by Capitol Hill and surrounding Senate and House staff offices), the White House and Executive Office building, the State Department Building, and at all memorials and monuments.
