Swords have been an important component of U.S. Navy ceremonial attire since the earliest days of its existence. And while other uniform items from the Age of Sail such as cocked hats have been set aside, swords are still worn at a variety of formal ceremonies. Regulations require all active-duty Navy commissioned officers in the rank of Lieutenant Commander or above to own not only a sword, but also a sword belt and sword knot. And while swords are listed as optional for Officers ranked Lieutenant and below, ownership of this iconic naval accouterment is a sign of pride of service and respect for its traditions.
Officers may choose between a black leather belt or a belt manufactured with synthetic leather. Both feature a gold-plated buckle and, like all our products, are Berry Amendment-compliant.
