Known the world over as the “Cornhusker State,” it is only fitting that the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia for members of the Nebraska Army National Guard Element serving at Joint Force Headquarters features a cornstalk with the husk falling away to reveal the staple crop. The stalk rests upon a twisted wreath of blue and yellow, the colors of France, to signify that the territory that makes up the state was acquired in the Louisiana Purchase.
This unit patch was first approved for HQ and HQ Detachment, Nebraska National Guard on 17 February 1950. It was redesignated for the Nebraska Army National Guard’s HQ, State Area Command on 30 December 1983. It was given its current designation—Nebraska Army National Guard Element, Joint Force HQ—with an effective date of 1 October 2003.
The Nebraska National Guard is headquartered at Lincoln, Nebraska, along with the headquarters of both the Nebraska Army National Guard and Air National Guard.
