U.S. ARMY SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The United States Army Sustainment Command Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for United States Army Operations Support Command on 20 July 2000. It was subsequently redesignated for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, with updated symbolism, on 1 October 2006.

A yellow caltrop—a centuries-old defensive device originally meant to slow the advance of enemy troops, particularly those mounted on horses, camels, war elephants by projecting a sharp spike upward—is a symbol of spirit, resolve, and professionalism. It is placed inside a gear wheel to reinforce the Command’s efficient support for Soldiers as well as for industrial operations to the materiel they need. A bomb (“shell and flame”) is an emblem of the Command’s Ordnance mission, while the blue globe is a reference to the potential scope of the Command’s area of responsibility.

An upright sword in the is a reference to combat readiness and the organization’s support to individual Soldiers. At base is a reversed chevron, symbol of the single point of entry provided by the Command for all Army Materiel Command units for Army Field Commanders. "On The Line" is the organization's motto.

The principal provider of logistics support to units of the United States Army, the U.S. Army Sustainment Command is major subordinate command of U.S. Army Materiel Command that is headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. It was originally formed as the U.S. Army Operations Support Command in October 2000, but plans for the transformation of the Army to a brigade-based system led to its redesignation as U.S. Army Sustainment Command in October 2006.

Today, the Command comprises seven Army Field Support Brigades, nearly two dozen Army Field Support Battalions, and Logistic Readiness Center, augmented by six Contracting Support Brigades under the tactical control of Army Sustainment Command.
