Crimson and yellow, the only colors used for the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, are the official branch colors of the Ordnance Corps. In the center of the insignia is a “torch” comprised of a flaming bomb—inspired by and designed to simulate the branch insignia of the Ordnance Corps—sitting atop a torch handle. In military heraldry, torches are typically used to allude to the enlightenment provided by the knowledge imparted at schools or training facilities.
This insignia was originally approved for Ordnance Training Command on 7 November 1956. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School on 31 January 1968, but was canceled with an effective date of 25 April 2002 per the request of the Office of the Chief of Ordnance. Personnel assigned to the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School now wear the U.S. Army Missile and Munitions School Shoulder Sleeve Insignia.
