Per Department of the Army Pamphlet 670-1, our Sapper Tabs are 2-3/8” long and 11/16” wide, with a 1/8th-inch border. The full-color tab, worn on the Army Service Uniform, features the word “SAPPER” in white letters measuring 5/16” in height on a red background, while black letters are used on either a foliage-green (UCP) or bagby-green (OCP) background on the subdued versions for the Army Combat Uniform.
The Sapper Tab was established by Army Chief of Staff Peter J. Schoomaker on 28 June 2004. Wear is authorized for successfully completing all graduation requirements from a Sapper Leaders Course held by the U.S. Army Engineer School. Sapper tabs may also be awarded retroactively to personnel who fulfilled all graduation requirements and has a graduation certificate dated on or after 14 June 1985.
