The trio of red, blue, and white used in the field of the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Texas Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters is an allusion to the colors of the flag of the Republic of Texas. A star found with a wreath of live oak surrounding it in the insignia’s chief (upper third) are authorized from the crest of the Texas National Guard, but here are depicted in the Staff Corps’ colors of black and gold; this is a reference to the State Staff Corps which answers to all branches of the state’s military forces.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for Headquarters (HQ) and HQ Detachment and non-color bearing units of the Texas Army National Guard (ARNG) on 16 March 1971. It was redesignated for HQ, State Area Command, Texas ARNG with an effective date of 1 October 1982. On 1 October 2003, it was given its current designation for the Texas ARNG, Joint Force HQ and amended to update the description.
Joint Force Headquarters, Texas National Guard are located in Austin, Texas.
