The Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 108th Armored Cavalry Regiment, also called a unit crest, was approved on 23 March 1971. Its yellow shield and green diagonal are colors frequently used by Armored units (green was the official branch color from 1947 to 1951). The diagonal simulates the imprint of a tank track.
In the upper left, the canton stands for the campaigns and decoration of the 134th Quartermaster Truck Company, forebear of the Regiment’s first squadron, during World War II. Scarlet is used as the background for the canto to recall the Meritorious Unit Commendation the Company was awarded for its work on the AlCan Highway in Canada; the fleur-de-lis is a reference to campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe; the annulet (gold ring) suggests a wheel and thus the mobility of Company.
Distinctive Unit Insignias is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Though not organized and Federally recognized in the Mississippi Army National Guard until 1956 as the 750th Tank Battalion, the 108th Armored Cavalry’s heritage includes battle honors and a military decoration for World War II because they had been earned by the existing unit from which the Battalion was formed. The Battalion was expanded, reorganized, and redesignated as the 2nd and 3rd Reconnaissance Squadrons, 108th Armored Cavalry on 1 May 1959. The units were ordered into active Federal service on 30 September 1962 until 23 October 1962 as part of the precautions taken during the initial desegregation of the University of Mississippi. In 1968, the two Squadrons were consolidated to form a single squadron.
The 1st Squadron, 108th Armored Cavalry was inactivated in 2007.
