U.S. ARMY 128TH ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 128th Engineer Battalion is a unit in the Nebraska Army National Guard. There was a previous unit that carried the same designation that was originally constituted on 20 June 1946 as the 128th Engineer Combat Battalion and redesignated as the 128th Engineer Battalion on 1 February 1953, but that organization was redesignated as the 195th Armor in May 1968. The current 128th Engineer Battalion was established a result of Nebraska Governor Peter Rickets’ reorganization of the Nebraska National Guard that began in 2015; the Battalion was established on 21 July 2017.

Approved on 12 April 2017, the 128th Engineer Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—mistakenly referred to as a “unit crest” by many Soldier and more accurately by the initialism DUI—is divided into upper and lower halves with a dexter diagonal line. A tower in the upper area immediately recalls the structure seen on the Corps of Engineer branch insignia and denotes the 28th as being part of that organization. In the lower half, a covered wagon is taken from the unit’s coat of arms, and is also a reference to the thousands of settlers in Conestoga-style wagons who made Nebraska their home in the 19th century. IN AL SERVITUM, the unit motto, appears to be a misspelling of the Latin phrase IN ALL SERVITUM, which translates into English as "In All Service."

Distinctive Unit Insignias is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
