The 376th Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, usually called a unit crest or a DUI, was originally approved for the 134th Aviation Regiment on 11 January 2007. It was redesignated retroactively to 1 October 2007 for the 376th Aviation Regiment.
An eagle in the center of the insignia is an emblem of the vigilance and resolve of the United States in combating terrorism worldwide. The nine stars above it, along with the eleven distinct feathers of the eagle, recall the attacks of 9-11 in New York City and the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. A pair of motto scrolls stands for the twin towers were destroyed that day, while the green border and pentagon behind the eagle commemorate the terrorists’ victims in Pennsylvania and in Washington, D.C., respectively. The colors gold and scarlet are those of excellence and sacrifice. APPUGNO FORMIDO, the Regimental motto, is Latin for “Fight Against Terror.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
