U.S. ARMY 206TH REGIONAL SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly known as a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 206th Support Group—now designated as the 206th Regional Support Group—was approved on 3 December 2009. The alternating checkerboard-style pattern in the shield is called countercharging in heraldry, and here it serves to illustrate the organization’s transitional responsibilities involving casualty, accountability, postal, and personnel management. A vertically oriented sword in the center of the shield stands for military readiness; its placement on the pale (center vertical band) and downward orientation personifies the sacrifices made by Soldiers.

To the left of the sword is a black disc, called a pellet, containing a design called a huitoil, a symmetrical shape which forms the overall outline of eight partially-overlapping circles of the same diameter and sometimes called a double quatrefoil. The pellet represents an artillery shell; the huitfoil simulates a flower and signifies flexibility, and the combination of the two suggests the transformation of the unit in 2008 by inactivating the Ordnance Group and reorganizing it into a Support Group. A countercharged chevron below the pellet and the key denotes the unit’s Support Mission. “Provide Service Support” is the Group motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectivel
