U.S. ARMY 406TH ARMY FIELD SUPPORT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 406th Army Field Support Brigade was activated provisionally in March 2005 under the designation Army Field Support Brigade—Continental United States-East under the Army Sustainment Command. Tasked with providing Army Force Generation support for unit prosecuting the Global War on Terror, the Brigade comprised 17 installations in some 26 states in the Eastern U.S. On 16 October 2007, the provisional tag was dropped and the unit was designated as the 406th Army Field Support Brigade, with its subordinate Logistics Support Elements being internally reorganized as four Army Field Support Battalions. As of Summer 2023, these four Battalions are based at Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Fort Drum, and Fort Stewart.

Among its several major responsibilities is the Army’s Pre-positioned Stock Afloat program at the Army Strategic Logistics Activity Charleston and the support of Army Special Operations Forces. In tandem with U.S. Northern Command and providing direct support for XVIII Airborne Corps (Army Contingency Corps), all of the unit’s Brigade Logistic Teams have deployed several times to support the Global War on Terror.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 406th Army Field Support Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on the same day that the unit received its current designation (16 October 2007). White, red, and blue are inspired by the Army Materiel Command colors and insignia, and their inclusion carries with it the mission of support and materiel supply to Army units in the Continental United States. A golden eagle denotes action, loyalty, and strength; it also symbolizes the Continental United States. The bomb, key, and sword in the center are taken from the Ordnance (bomb) and Quartermaster (key and sword) insignia to signify the “Steadfast Support” the Brigade provides to all units. Six stars reflect the numerical designation of 406th.
