U.S. ARMY 416TH ENGINEER GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 416th Engineer Group was approved for wear on 24 September 1971. Red and white, branch colors of the Army Corps of Engineers, are displayed prominently in the insignia, along with gold denoting excellence and high ideals. In the center of the insignia is a dragon rendered in white with gold highlights, superimposed on a red disc and holding a double-warded key; a gold triangle rests atop the sea lion. A pair of wavy blue bars forms the base of the insignia, while the unit motto “Aggressive And Proud” is inscripted in red on a gold annulet.

The sea lion, key, triangle, and wavy blue bars are all references to the organization's service in the Philippine Island during World War II. As elements of the 140th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division, the unit took part in the assault landing on the island of Luzon, an action commemorated by the triangle's simulation of an arrowhead.

A pair of wavy blue bars are an allusion to the bridgehead the unit constructed across the Pasig River, while the double-warded key signifies the liberation of Americans being held captive at Bilibid Prison and of the patients and refugees inside Philippine General Hospital. The blue tone of the waves also points to the Presidential Unit Citation the unit was awarded for its superior service on Luzon, for which it was also tapped for a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, signified by the sea lion which is found on numerous seals, medals, and logos of the government of the Philippines.

A buckeye is a reference to the crest of the Ohio National Guard, the unit's parent organization.

All sources seem to confirm that the last mention of the 416th Engineer Group came during Operation Desert Shield and that it was a derivative unit Headquarters for the 416th Engineer Command.
