Worn from 2015 to 2021 by members of the 533rd Brigade Support Battalion, the 533rd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 533rd Supply and Service Battalion on 16 March 1967. It was redesignated for the 533rd Support Battalion, with description and symbolism updated, with an effective date of 16 September 2008.
A knapsack with the image of a heraldic lion emblazoned on it and resting upon a battle axe represents the Battalion’s functions and characteristics. Attached to the knapsack is a golden key. The knapsack is the symbol of supply, while the key is the symbol for service; together, they allude to the Battalion’s Support mission. With the battle axe beneath it, the images paint the picture of support for the individual War Fighter.
The lion is taken from the Coat of Arms for Normandy, a reference to the Battalion’s participation in the Normandy assault landings on 6 and 7 June 1944 for which it was awarded an Arrowhead device for the Normandy campaign streamer and a French Croix de Guerre.

In March 1967, the 533rd Quartermaster Battalion was redesignated as the 533rd Supply and Service Battalion, a designation it held for more than four decades until it was redesignated as the 533rd Support Battalion in 2008.
Now called the 533rd Brigade Support Battalion, the unit is allotted to the United States Army Reserve. When not called into active military service, it is assigned to the 302nd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command. The Battalion is headquartered at Fort Totten, New York.
