Commonly called a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 641st Aviation Regiment was approved on 12 August 2008. Its shield portion is bisected diagonally into equal halves, with the Aviation branch’s official colors of orange and ultramarine blue used for the background of both halves of the shield. Surmounted over both halves is a Griffin rendered in silver, the color that denotes integrity and strength of purpose; in mythology, the Griffin, a creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body and tail of a lion The wings point to the unit’s success in carrying out mission requirements, while the qualities of the Griffin—vigilance, resourcefulness, and courage—are echoed in the unit motto “Enduring Vigilance.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Under the administrative control of the Oregon Army National Guard’s 82nd Troop Command and assigned to the 63rd Theater Aviation Brigade, the 641st Aviation Regiment comprises a single Battalion headquartered at Salem, Oregon.
The Detachments in its companies are part of Army National Guards across much of the country, with Detachments stationed in locations including (but not limited to) Arizona, South Dakota, Utah, Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
