U.S. ARMY 926TH ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Often called a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 926th Engineer Battalion was originally approved on 23 June 1958. It has remained unchanged since that time except for an amendment on 20 November 1970 that changed the motto to the English translation, “Ready Now.” [Note: The Institute Of Heraldry does not state what language the motto was written in before this amendment: our guess would be French.]

Scarlet and white (silver), branch colors of the Army Corps of Engineers, are used almost exclusively for the 926th Engineer Battalion DUI. Running horizontally across the middle of the shield portion of the insignia is a trussed girder that symbolizes the construction mission of the Battalion. Behind the girder are a trio of fleurs-de-lis, an allusion to the three battle honors earned by the unit for service in France, while the two bunches of grapes commemorate the Battalion’s Central Europe and Rhineland campaign participation.

As of Winter 2024, the 926th Engineer Battalion remains allotted to the U.S. Army Reserve and is headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. is assigned to the 926th Engineer Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command. When not called to active Federal military service it is assigned to the 926th Engineer Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command, U.S. Army Reserve.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
