U.S. ARMY DENTAL HEALTH ACTIVITY, FORT GORDON UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Maroon and white (silver) are used for the text and the scroll attached to the shield portion of the Dental Health Activity, Fort Gordon Distinctive Unit Insignia to reflect the organization’s status as an Army Medical Department unit; silver also alludes to the equipment used by Dentists. The schoolhouse encompassing the gridline globe is a reference to the essentials of education and training, while the globe is a reference to the unit’s worldwide reach. “Knowledge Excellence,” the unit motto, reinforces the concepts of education (Knowledge) and training (Excellence).

A red cross is a universal symbol recognized as a sign of medical care, aid, and health. Superimposed on the cross is a serpent entwining not a staff or rod but a lightning bolt—a tribute to both the Medical and Signal units stationed at Fort Gordon, home to the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence where Signal professionals are trained.

Also called a unit crest or a DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia for the Dental Health Activity, Fort Gordon was approved on 24 April 2017. The personnel authorized to wear this insignia had previously worn the
U.S. Army Dental Activity, Fort Gordon unit crest, but it was cancelled on 30 September 2016 when their unit was redesignated as Dental Health Activity, Fort Gordon.

On 27 October 2023, Fort Gordon was redesignated Fort Eisenhower in accordance with a recommendation by the Commission on the Naming of Items of the Department of Defense that Commemorate the Confederate States of America or Any Person Who Served Voluntarily with the Confederate States of America.
