U.S. ARMY RESERVE SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The U.S. Army Reserve Sustainment Command Distinctive Unit Insignia, colloquially referred to as a DUI or “unit crest,” was approved on 7 May 2010, the same day as its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and just under five months from the date it went fully operational. The Army Reserve Sustainment Command is a major subordinate organization of the Reserve's 377th Theater Sustainment Command headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.

Gold is used extensively in the design of this insignia, and in heraldry this color always refer to honor, excellence, and high ideals. The division of the disc interior into red, white, and blue fields is an allusion to Army Materiel Command (it uses a similar color scheme for its insignia) and the support that Army Reserve Sustainment Command (ARSC) provides to it and its subordinate elements.

Strength, experience, knowledge, and support are denoted by the four stars, while the compass points and rayed lines on the border of the gold disc allude to a compass rose, a common image in heraldry signifying a worldwide mission or capability. The arrow is the visual representation of many contributing personnel in the organization, Officer and Enlisted alike, contributing to focus on a single goal of supporting the mission of many, a characteristic that is emphasized in the unit motto UNUS SUSTINEO PLURES (“One Sustains Many”). The green scroll recalls the United States Army and its total readiness.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
