U.S. ARMY HUMAN RESOURCES COMMAND UNIT CREST (OBSOLETE DUI)

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command was originally approved on 4 May 1989 for the U.S. Total Army Personnel Command on 4 May 1989. It was amended to correct its description on 18 November 1996 and was subsequently redesignated for the U.S. Army Human Resources Command on 2 October 2003 with both the description and symbolism revised. The Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel (DCS), G1 approved a request to redesign the Human Resources Command’s insignia with an effective date of 1 March 2019, rendering this insignia obsolete.

The red, blue, and white (silver) of the insignia are of course the national colors. A gridlined globe in the center is symbolic of the worldwide scope of the mission of Human Resources Command, while the sword superimposed upon it is an emblem denoting military readiness as well as the important of each individual the organization serves. Four outward-facing arrows in the four main compass point indicate the worldwide personnel management policies and programs that the Command has developed and maintained to support the Regular Army, Army Reserve, Army National Guard, and Department of the Army civilian personnel.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
