Chief Warrant Officers 2 (CW2) wear nonsubdued, pin-on metal insignia on the standard-issue black beret as well as on the green, maroon, and tan berets (organizational items issued to Special Forces, Airborne, and Ranger personnel). The CW2 rank insignia is positioned vertically on the beret and centered the beret flash. A subdued, embroidered version of the CW2 insignia is worn on Patrol Caps, Sun Hats, and on the camouflage cover of the helmet.

It is also worn on the Heritage Green 564 Garrison Cap that is the default headgear for the relatively new Army Green Service Uniform, or AGSU. The CWO2 is worn on the left curtain, one inch from the cap's front crease and centered vertically (see
Figure 21-7 of DA PAM 670-1).
Note: Veterans, uniform collectors, military aficionados, and media production companies may want to purchase the nonsubdued pin-on CW2 cap rank insignia for Garrison Caps worn with the old Green Army Service Uniform ("Army Greens") as opposed to current Army Green Service Uniform (approved in November 2018). These "old school" Garrison Caps come in versions for Enlisted Soldiers, Officers, Warrant Officers, and Generals, differentiated by the color of the piping braid on the “curtain” of the cap: Gold for
Generals, black and gold for
Officers, silver for
Warrant Officers, and Army green for
Enlisted personnel.
