The instantly recognizable Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) rank insignia is most prominently displayed when worn on the AGSU Garrison cap (placed on the left curtain one inch from the cap's front crease) and on berets—either the clothing bag issue Black Beret or the Maroon, Green, Tan, and Brown berets issued to Warrant Officers serving in Airborne, Special Forces, Ranger, or Security Force Assistance Command personnel. On the flashs, the insignia is arrayed vertically and centered on the flash.
A subdued cloth version of the CW3 cap rank insignia is worn on the Sun Hat (boonie), Patrol Cap, and the camouflage cover of helmets. Visit our ACU Ranks page to learn more and to purchase
subdued cloth CW3 rank insignia for these headgear items, as well for wear on Combat and Utility uniforms or the ECWCS Gore-Tex® parka.
The CW3 rank insignia was previously worn on the Garrison Cap, which was the standard-issue headgear for wear with the Class A Army Green Service uniform until 2001. Though current members of the Active Component, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard are not authorized to wear the Garrison Cap as part of their uniforms, we continue to manufacture and stock a variety of Garrison Caps (i.e., versions for
Enlisted,
Officer,
Warrant Officer, and
Generals) because of strong demand from Veterans, as well as from uniform collectors, military aficionados, and others seeking this style of cap manufactured to the Mil-Spec regulations of the day.
Customers interested in the Garrison Caps worn with the Green Army Service Uniform worn from roughly 1956 to 2015 should also go to our
Army Uniforms page and check out the Class A Green Army Service Uniform for male enlisted
Soldiers,
Officers, and
Generals, as well as
female enlisted Soldiers and
Officers. On the Army Hats page, you'll find the Garrison Caps authorized for these classic uniforms, with versions available for
Enlisted Soldiers (NCOs and Junior Enlisted),
Compa ny- a
nd Field-Grade Officers, and
Gen erals, all manufactured according to specifications using Mil-Spec fabric in Army Green Shade 491.
