Formerly designated as the Khaki Men’s Combination Cover, this cap was redesignated as a unisex cover in 2015 along with the Alternate Combination Cover, with Female CPOs required to own one of the two to replace the Female Combination Cover by 31 October 2018.
The history of khaki uniforms in the Navy dates back to World War I and the nascent days of Navy Aviation. Searching for an aviation uniform that was more practical and durable than the White or Blue service uniforms of the day and more comfortable than the dungarees worn by some Officers, the Navy introduced a summer uniform made of khaki (based on Service Dress Blues and Whites) into the 1917 uniform regulations; in 1917, the Aviation Working Green uniform was born when the Marine Corps’ Forestry Green wool uniform was chosen as a winter uniform.
Our Khaki Combination Cap for CPOs is manufactured with Mil-Spec materials. Reflecting the uniform changes implemented in 1999 that eliminated a 65/35 polycotton blend for use in the Service Khaki uniform, the cap is available in either a 75/5 poly-wool blend or 100 percent polyester Certified Navy Twill. All Combination Cap insignia—chin strap, gold buttons, and CPO cap device—are mounted, so the cap ships ready to wear.
