Also known as background trimming, ovals are worn as backing for Parachutist and Air Assault badges. They are authorized for wear on the coat of the Army Service/Dress uniform, the shirt of the Service uniform, and the Maternity Tunic.

Originally constituted as the 10th Military Police Section, Criminal Investigation on 12 August 1943, the 10th Military Police Battalion (CID) was redesignated the 10th Military Police Detachment on 16 August 1954. It was active for only an 18-month period (January 1968 to July 1969) between that time and its activation at Fort Bragg in 1973. As of Summer 2023, it remains based at Fort Bragg—renamed Fort Liberty in June 2023—under the designation 10th Military Police Battalion it received in 1996.
Part of the 3rd Military Police Group headquartered at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia, the 10th Military Police Battalion is responsible for criminal investigative support and investigative oversight to military communities and areas surrounding them at Fort Liberty, Fort Jackson (South Carolina), Fort Eisenhower (formerly Fort Gordon in Georgia), Fort Stewart (Georgia), and Hunter Army Airfield. Soldiers from the 10th MP Battalion have deployed and served in Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Uphold Democracy, Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, among others. Since 2005, the Battalion's HQ and HQ Detachment (or a Detachment fro it) has been honored with five Meritorious Unit Commendations.
