The 101st Personnel Services Battalion oval, officially designated as Airborne background trimming and sometimes called simply background trimming, was approved on 30 December 1994.
This embroidered insignia is worn by Battalion personnel who have earned a Parachutist and/or Air Assault badge, which is centered on the oval before the combination is placed on Service Uniform coats (both AGSU and ASU, including the ASU Dress variation), Service Uniform shirts (Class B ASU), and the Army Maternity Tunic (green or blue, female Soldiers only).
Wear guidance for the Airborne background trimming is found in the January 2021 edition of DA PAM 670-1,
Chapter 21-32 (b). The rules for the wear and positioning of badges and ovals vary between authorized uniform types; detailed instructions are found in the entirety of
Chapter 22-16, (b) of DA PAM 670-1.
