U.S. ARMY 101ST SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Approved on 22 November 2010, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 101st Sustainment Brigade, also called a unit crest, is replete with imagery invoking the Brigade’s heritage and primary mission responsibilities. “VITA VERSUS,” a Latin phrase that translate as “Life Liners,” summarizes succinctly the Brigade’s history of providing support services, from the time the unit was designated as the 101st Airborne Division Support Command to its current title. A deployed parachute in the upper left represents the 101st Airborne Division’s area of operations, which the Brigade supports, with the color red connoting liberation; to its right is a saltire with circular opening in the center that evokes the idea of helicopter blades and one of the unit’s primary modes of transportation.

The black color of the compass rose suggests strength and steadfast vigilance, while the shape is a reference to the directional support the Brigade can provide anytime and anywhere in the world. The eagle head is taken from the 101st Airborne Division’s unit patch (it also appears on the 101st Sustainment Brigade’s unit patch) and recalls the Division’s classification as Airborne when it was founded. Playing card suits and the Torii gate are allusions to the graphic images that Soldiers painted on their helmets during World War II.

Also referred to as the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade is currently based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky (as of Autumn 2023). Its subordinate units include the 101st Special Troops Battalion, the 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, and the 716th Military Police Battalion.
