Orange, green, and black make up the color scheme of both the organizational flash and oval (background trimming) of the 112th Signal Battalion. Unlike the Battalion’s Distinctive Unit Insignia, there is no official symbolism published online, but the references associated with these colors are fairly obvious: orange for Signal Corps, green for Special Forces, and black for covert operations.
Organizational flashes are worn centered on the stiffener of an appropriately colored beret (Airborne=maroon, Special Forces=Green, Ranger=tan, SFAC=brown). Officers serving in the 112th Signal Battalion wear their non-subdued rank insignia centered on the flash. Junior Enlisted Soldiers and NCOs, on the other hand, wear the 1
12th Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, or
unit crest, on the flash.
Ovals are worn beneath authorized Parachutist or Air Assault Badges on Service Uniform Coats and Shirts (AGSU and blue ASU) and the blue or green Army Maternity Tunic (female Soldiers only). Worn together, the badge and oval are considered a single device for purposes of measurement and placement.
