Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 127th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 10 May 1995 and is today worn by personnel in the 127th Aviation Support Battalion. A black horse’s head is the centerpiece of the insignia and is visual reference to the Battalion’s nickname of “Workhorse;” black is also the color of stability and also simulates iron, pointing to the unit motto of “Iron Eagle Support.”
Above the horse head is a chevron whose edge has nebuly, the heraldic design style that symbolizes cloud and recalls the Battalion’s association with Aviation. The blue area invokes the image of the sky to draw another association to Aviation, while the scarlet background used for the motto denotes courage. “Iron Eagle Support” is a reference to the fact that the 127th Support Battalion (now referred to as the 127th Aviation Support Battalion) is assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, whose nickname is “Iron Eagles.”
Since the 127th Support Battalion unit crest was approved in 1995, the organization has been honored with two Meritorious Unit Commendations for its superior and noteworthy service. The first was awarded for its support of Task Force Eagle between 15 October 1995 and 10 December 1996; the second was for its 2004 deployment to Iraq in support of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
As of Summer 2023, the 127th Aviation Support Battalion is assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division.
