The 135th Sustainment Command’s unit crest—more accurately called a Distinctive Unit Insignia—features a mill rind superimposed over an arrow, all contained with a heart-shaped scroll inscribed with the unit motto “Sustaining Freedom.” Mill rinds are a common image indicating support in heraldry, while the arrow is a nod to the unit’s combat origins and its recognition for its participation in the assault landing on New Guinea during World War II.
