U.S. ARMY 141ST SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 141st Brigade Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), commonly known as a unit crest, was originally approved for the 162nd Engineer Combat Battalion on 13 August 1953. It was redesignated for the 141st Support Battalion on 23 July 1968. Although The Institute of Heraldry does not list a redesignation date assigning this insignia to the 141st Brigade Support Battalion, but this insignia is displayed on the Battalion’s official Facebook page.

The Battalion’s original service with an Infantry regiment is represented by the blue portion of the shield; the castle is from the Spanish-American War service medal and denotes the organization’s service in that war. A red background in the bottom of half signifies the Battalion’s ancestral links to the Corps of Engineers; during World War I, it was designated as the 116th Engineer Regiment and was stationed in the city of Angers represented by the key from its coats of arms. The lion is from the coat of arms of St. Vith and alludes to the organization’s outstanding performance as the 162nd Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II. DA MIHI LOCUM is Latin for “Give To Me A Place.”

Distinctive Unit Insignia are is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
