Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 151st Signal Battalion (now designated as the 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion) was approved on 21 June 1981. White and orange found throughout the design indicate the organization is a Signal Corps unit. The diagonal lightning flash indicates that the unit provides Signal capabilities to both South Carolina (represented by the blue field) and Florida (the orange field); inclusion of a palmetto in the blue field denotes that it is assigned to South Carolina and the South Carolina Army National Guard. The unit motto is a Latin phrase, UBIQUE AD FINEM, that translates as “Everywhere To The End.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Constituted in the South Carolina Army National Guard as the 151st Signal Battalion on 23 March 1959 and organized in central South Carolina from existing elements on 1 April 1959, today’s 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion spent its four years assigned to the 51st Infantry Division. It was relieved from that role on 1 April 1963, and for the next four decades it remained under state control as its HQ was relocated from Columbia to Newberry in 1968 and then to Greenville in 1980. It was called into Federal service in February 2003 and released from active Federal service in June 2004.
Although the Battalion’s campaign credits from its deployments in the War on Terrorism have yet to be determined, the organization did inherit some of the battle honors and military decorations of the units that were used to form the unit back in 1959. Specifically, the HQ Company is credited with four World War I and two World War II campaigns, while Company A is credited with three World War II campaigns in Italy. The Battalion did earn a Meritorious Unit Commendation during the 2003-2004 deployment, but Company A is additionally entitled to a French Croix de Guerre with Silver-Gilt Star for its heroism at Cassino (Battle of Monte Cassino) in World War II.
In 2011, the 151st ESB deployed two companies in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, with one sent to Iraq and the other to Afghanistan. In March of that year, the Battalion’s personnel participated in suicide-intervention training at Victory Base Complex in Baghdad. More recently, Company B deployed to Europe in April 2018 for one-year assignment of providing support to U.S. Army Europe.
As of 2023, the 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion is assigned to the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade.
