U.S. ARMY 157TH INFANTRY BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 157th Infantry Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for wear on 13 July 1966, a date that was not only four years after the Brigade had received its current designation, but also nearly fifty years after the events celebrated through the imagery on the insignia itself.

As part of the 79th Division, the 157th Infantry Brigade (it was designated as the 158th at that time) took part in the massive Meuse-Argonne offensive that Allied Commanders hoped would bring the First World War to an almost immediate end. On 26 September, the 79th went “over the top” with the 35th Division on one of its flanks and the 37th on its other. Both these divisions were making reasonable headway against the Hindenburg line, but the 79th had been stopped in front of Montfaucon, presumed to be so sturdily fortified it could not be taken.

Nonetheless, the 158th and other Infantry units in the 79th renewed the attack on 27 September and successfully drove the defenders back. By the end of that day, the Allied forces in that sector had penetrated seven miles into the German defenses. General John J. Pershing, recognizing the heroism that was involved in seizing this stronghold, commended both the entire 79th Division and specifically the Soldiers of the 313th Infantry Regiment, part of the 158th Infantry Brigade. The 157th Infantry Brigade unit crest celebrates the achievement with the image of a falcon on a mount, a reminder of what can be accomplished through “Vigilance And Valor.”

As of Winter 2024, the 157th Infantry Brigade is allotted to the Army Reserve, where it is assigned First Army Division East and is headquartered at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Its subordinate units incluce four Combat Sustainment Support Battalions—the 2-337th, 2-338th, 3-338th, and 3-335th—and a Logistics Support Battalion, the 3-411th.
