U.S. ARMY 158TH INFANTRY BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 158th Infantry Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia was first approved for the 158th Infantry Brigade on 11 March 1998. It was then redesignated for the 2nd Brigade, 87th Division on 28 September 1999, less than three weeks before the 158th was inactivated at Patrick Air Force Base. It was then redesignated for the 158th Infantry Brigade in 2006 – 2007 after the assets of the 2nd Brigade, 97th Division were used to constitute 158th Infantry Brigade following its reactivation on 1 December 2006. As of Autumn 2023, the 158th Infantry Brigade is no longer listed as a unit serving in the active component of the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or Army National Guard.

“One Standard” is the unit motto adopted by the Brigade to reflect the goal of First Army, the Brigade's former parent organization, to train all Reserve and National Guard Soldiers to the same standard of excellence. At the top center of the insignia, a blue-and-white pheon trimmed in gold is a reminder of the Brigade’s Infantry heritage and training mission; gold is the color of excellence. Three fleur-de-lis symbolize the three French Croix de Guerre the unit was awarded following World War II.

Often called a unit crest or referred to by the initialism DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam (DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however).

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the insignia by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively.
