Often called unit patches, Shoulder Sleeve Insignia are available as full-color insignia or as subdued patches ("ACU") manufactured in either the Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP) or its successor, the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) and worn on the Army Combat Uniform and other utility uniforms.
Since 2019, full-color patches are worn on the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU); they previously were worn on the old Army Green Uniform which was replaced by the Army Service Uniform in 2015. [Note: We continue to carry the old Army Green Uniform due to strong demand from veterans, uniform and insignia collectors, and other groups seeking authentic insignia that has been discontinued.] Be sure to select the appropriate camouflage pattern when purchasing the ACU patch; uniforms issued after August 2015 were made with the OCP, while those made with the UCP have an official wear-out date of 30 September 2019.

In February 2008, the 2nd Brigade, 24th Infantry Division was redesignated HQ and HQ Company, 170th Infantry Brigade, reviving a lineage that had originally begun with the constitution and organization of a two-regiment brigade with the same title back in August 1917. Activated in 2009, the 170th would be in existence for just three more years, but during that time it would prove “Strength, Honor, Discipline” was a motto it took seriously, earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service between in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2011. Just nine months after returning to its home station in Baumholder, Germany, the Brigade was inactivated and cased its colors on 9 October 2012.
