A unit in the Ohio Army National Guard, the 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade was activated on 1 September 2008 at Columbus Ohio. Simultaneously, the 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was approved for wear.
The Brigade’s military preparedness and round-the-clock readiness is emphasized by the unit motto QUISQUAM USQUAM, which translates to “Anytime Anywhere” and is written in white letters on a black scroll as a reminder of its day-and-night responsibilities. The counterchanged lightning bolts reflect the swiftness and might of the Brigade’s response to threats. A trio of wavy bars in the middle of the insignia is a reference to the Brigade’s three types of mission the Brigade can undertake: National, State, and Community. Bisecting the wavy lines is a silver arrow representing a missile that graphically symbolizes the primary tool used the Brigade uses to keep the skies free and clear. Below the wavy bars, a white annulet on a red field is taken from the state flag of Ohio, the Brigade’s home.

As of Autumn 2023, the 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade remains an active unit in the Ohio Army National Guard.
