The blue-and-white organizational flash and back-ground trimming of the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHB), XVIII Airborne Corps is inspired by the colors used for the unit’s Combat Service ID Badge and the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia once worn on the Class A/B Army Green Service uniform. (The HHB was designated an HQ and HQ Company, or HHC, from 1965 to 2009.)
The organizational flash for the HHB, XVIII Airborne Corps is worn on the maroon berets authorized for personnel in Airborne units whose primary missions are Airborne operations (or personnel in closely related units, such as those serving in the Airborne/Airlift action office). Enlisted Soldiers center the XVIII Airborne Corps Distinctive Unit Insignia on the flash; Officers center nonsubdued insignia of grade on it.
Ovals are called background trimming because Parachutist and Air Assault badges are placed on them before being attached to the Army Service/Dress uniform coat, Service uniform shirt, or the Maternity Tunic. The badge-and-oval combination may be moved so that it is aligned with the left edge of medals or ribbons if the coat’s lapel overlaps the oval or badge.
