1 Noncommissioned Officers (NCO) Academy are authorized wear of this beret flash. Established to ensure that Enlisted Soldiers develop into Enlisted Leaders, the NCO Academy provides professional military education designed to help them become disciplined, fit, and well-educated professionals.
The Army is not alone in realizing the importance of fully developing the potential of its NCO Corps through the delivery of professional military education programs. The United States Air Force has six NCO Academies in the Continental U.S. and four outside it (Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, and Japan), as well as a Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy. And the United States Navy debuted its Senior Enlisted Academy in September 1981, and in 2006 it opened its first-ever CPO Academy, with classes held in England, Germany, Spain, and Italy.
