st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) was originally approved for the 1
st Combat Support Brigade (Maneuver Enhancement) on 16 September 2007 and was redesignated for the 1
st MEB on 1 February 2008.
Though inactivated less than eight years after it was organized, the Brigade earned campaign participation credit for its deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as a Meritorious Unit Commendation during that deployment. It was also honored with an Army Superior Unit award for its service while assigned to the Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response Force (2011 to 2013).
The U.S. Army Center of Military History authorized the special designation of “Guardian Brigade” for the 1
st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
