The 2nd Information Operations Battalion, 1st Information Operations Command has two primary functions. In cyberspace training, it assumes the role of opposing information operations to carry out full-spectrum IO analysis in order to find, expose, and exploit vulnerabilities as a way to discover new methods to improved the security and readiness of Department of Defense components. Its second major role is the utilization of cyberspace/IO operations to defend and protect Army networks to empower Commanders with freedom of action in Information Operations while denying that capability to adversaries.
For proving support teams to ensure the security and efficacy of Information Operations conducted not only by the U.S. Army, but also by other U.S. military land components and joint forces, the 2nd Information Operations Battalion was honored with an Army Superior Unit Award on 16 October 2009. As of the Summer of 2023, the Battalion is headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
“INDICIUM DOMINATUS,” the Battalion’s motto, is a Latin phrase that translates into English as “Information Dominance."

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e)
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.
